Nativity scene options have evolved from traditional, standard motifs to include a wide variety of themes and styles

At Christmas, traditional holiday decoration choices include Christmas trees, toy trains to wrap around the bottom of the tree, stockings hanging from the fireplace mantle, wreaths on the front door, mistletoe, Santa Claus, reindeer, snow scenes, and of course a nativity scene. These types of traditional Christmas décor are the basics that most people have displayed in their home during the holiday season.

Christmas decorations are very important to many people, and often they don't like to deviate from the traditional holiday decorations that they have been displaying for years. Christmas is very important to unconventional Christmas celebrators and people of faith as well, so the style of decorating really depends on one's preference more than anything else.   

However, do Christmas decorations always have to be traditional? Those who aren't necessarily tied to displaying what is considered traditional are trying different things in recent Christmas seasons.   

Some people have been redefining Christmas décor by displaying a nativity scene that has a different theme or style than the typical manger theme. Others have been putting up table top Christmas trees in lieu of a full sized Christmas tree. It is a great idea to mix up the theme of traditional pieces of Christmas decorations such as nativity Jesus scenes or Christmas trees.   

Creative, unconventional holiday decoration themes are fast becoming popular among trendy celebrators of Christmas. Perhaps some people are tired of the same old Christmas decorations and need a change of scenery. Christmas is not only a time to show one's faith and enjoy the season of giving, but it is also becoming a time to have fun and be creative with one of the most special holidays for many people of faith.  

These changes to traditional Christmas decoration scenes also apply to outdoor decorations, too. Outdoor Christmas lights and the huge nativity scene décor that you often see in peoples' yards are going through some changes in terms of theme, style, color, and other changes. Some of these scenes are nativity Jesus themed while others don't display Jesus at all. There are so many options when it comes to nativity sets.  

Who knows? Maybe someday these unconventional versions of a nativity scene will be deemed "traditional" one day. Changing the typical holiday decoration options are a fun and more affordable way to experiment with the celebration of Christmas – and even make a stressful season easier to handle. Go easy on yourself this holiday season and be creative with your decorations.
