Bear Christmas
Christmas Bears
Christmas bears are a popular choice of stuffed animal during the holiday season. They're no different from other plush bears except for the festive red, white, and green clothing they generally come dressed in. Christmas bears can be purchased as 'stand-ins' for Mr. and Mrs. Clause and even come sporting tiny 'glass' spectacles to complete their look.
Washington Irving, a best selling author, wrote a series of stories in 1819 about the Christmas celebration that took place in a manor house called The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, gent. The tales were about a squire who invited peasants into his home on the holiday. Unlike what was going on in America at the time with the poor and upper classes (uprising of the less well-off against the wealthy), Irving's stories demonstrated how the two groups could mingle and get along without effort. Irving believed that Christmas should be celebrated as a warm and peaceful holiday which would be responsible for bringing all types of groups together – whether they were from upper or lower classes. In the stories, Irving had his characters enjoy several "ancient customs," although what took place in the book was not based on any celebration the author had ever attended. Historians believe that what Irving wrote about in his stories was responsible for "inventing" Christmas traditions given what was described in the tales were in fact customs that were recognized during the season.
Around the same time Washington Irving's stories were published, the classic tale called A Christmas Carol, by English author Charles Dickens, was also created. It was a Victorian morality tale about a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge who went through a profound experience of redemption during the course of visits from the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Yet to Come. With the importance of charity and good will as central themes in the story, it had a powerful effect on both the Victorian societies in the United States and England, showing them that there were several benefits to celebrating the Christmas holiday.
During this time in history – the early 1800s - families were also becoming more and more aware of the emotional needs of children as the family unit was becoming less disciplined and more sensitive in nature. Without looking like they were being spoiled, Christmas gave families the opportunity to be extravagant with their children at which time they showered them with an abundance of attention and gifts.
Christmas bears don't know how fortunate they are that Christmas was eventually taken seriously as a holiday. After all, where would they be today otherwise? Not only do Christmas bears make wonderful gifts for those fond of stuffed animals, but they can be amassed as part of a holiday collection of soft toys as well. Since they can also be purchased in a variety of sizes, colors, and, styles, that means there is a bear out there for everyone.

Has anyone ever heard of a Chilly Bears christmas ice cream?
These were the best ice cream sandwiches ever made. They used to come out at Christmas time years ago. They were like a Teddy bear with a cookie dough kind of sandwich with vanilla cream inside. I don't even think they make them anymore, I haven't seen them since 2002 but they were awesome. Just wanted to know if anyone else remembers them?
